“Stranger Things” star David Harbour is the title character in Neil Marshall’s Hellboy, which had its trailer released just last week. Interestingly, the footage doesn’t tonally match up with what’s being promised, which is a bloody horror movie.
“This movie is gory… it’s like a horror movie,” Harbour previously stated. “There’s a lot of blood in it. It’s brutal.”
Today, included with a brand new image from the film, Harbour added: “There’s really a sense that you’re actually killing things, even if they are giants or monsters,” Harbour tells Empire in the new Ultimate 2019 Preview issue. “You’re chopping their heads off, you’re bathing in their blood and you’re feeling the complex feelings of actually cutting the heart out of another thing.
“We’re taking the time to deal with the fact that Hellboy is a killer. He’s a weapon.”
Also starring: Milla Jovovich as Nimue, the film’s villain; Ian McShane as Professor Broom; Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio; Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida; and Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan with Sophie Okonedo (After Earth), Brian Gleeson (mother!) and Alistair Petrie (The Night Manager, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
The new story sees Hellboy squaring off against a medieval sorceress (Jovovich) who seeks to destroy humankind.
Here’s a new image of Harbour’s Hellboy with Ian McShane as his father figure Professor ‘Broom’ Bruttenholm, previously played in the del Toro films by John Hurt.
