Just three years ago, Paul Feig rebooted the Ghostbusters franchise with, well, Ghostbusters, a remake of the original classic starring Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig as the title characters. The plan, of course, was to kick-start a whole new franchise, but those plans changed when the box office numbers came in.
Made on a massive production budget of nearly $150 million, Feig’s Ghostbusters was almost destined to be a failure, and indeed the worldwide take of $229 million just wasn’t enough to justify the continuation of the remade franchise. And so, instead of making sequels to it, Sony has now hired Jason Reitman to make a sequel to the *original* film.
Remake star Leslie Jones is not happy about her franchise being disregarded after just one film, and over on Twitter, she’s holding nothing back in regards to her feelings.
Jones tweeted over the weekend, “So insulting. Like fuck us. We dint count. It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice) ”Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers” ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give fuck I’m saying something!!”
She continued, “When the point is if they make this new one with all men and it does well which it will. It might feel that “boys are better” it makes my heart drop. Maybe I could have use different words but I’m allowed to have my feelings just like them.”
