It looks like director Nia DaCosta and producer Jordan Peele have found their Daniel Robitaille, as Variety reports today that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is in talks to play Candyman!
This confirms that Tony Todd will *not* be back in next year’s film, which has been described as a “spiritual sequel” to director Bernard Rose’s 1992 Clive Barker adaptation.
The new movie returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.
Jordan Peele wrote the script with Win Rosenfeld.
MGM will bring Candyman back to life on June 12, 2020.
