A far cry from his no-budget start, Robert Rodriguez‘s Alita: Battle Angel was made for nearly $200 million, but Rodriguez is next returning to his small scale roots with Red 11. A new horror film that’s set to premiere at SXSW tomorrow, March 12th, Red 11 was made for just $7,000 – the same cost of Rodriguez’s debut feature back in 1992, El Mariachi!
Collider debuted the poster for Red 11, which you can find below.
Adapted from a script written 25 years ago that was based on Rodriguez’s experiences in a Medical Research Facility, Red 11 is set in a dark, twisted version of the Legal Drug Research world.
“At these Facilities, young guys become Lab Rats to make quick money, but our hero RED 11 is here to buy his way out of a huge debt to the tune of $7,000. This story shows the quirks, characters, and comedy of Robert’s experiences of being a human Lab Rat, but with a sci-fi and horror twist.”
Robert Rodriguez wrote the script with his son Racer.
