The space western Prospect was just released onto Blu-ray, DVD and VOD earlier this month, and Shep Films celebrates the release this week with a fun, retro-style VHS trailer!
The Shep Films team explains, “Prospect was heavily inspired by the practical sci fi movies we watched as kids: original Star Wars, 2001, Alien, Blade Runner. We watched these movies in our living rooms on VHS tapes. We cut this retro trailer as an homage to an era when making science fiction meant making a lot physical stuff.”
Unfortunately, Prospect hasn’t actually been released on VHS, but you can pretend below!
Patrick Bromley reviewed Prospect for us, calling it a “smart, unique and impressive” little sci-film film. He also wrote that it’s “a modest, low-budget film that refuses to cut corners or compromise,” adding “after a summer’s worth of movies that have treated me like a dummy, it’s a welcome change of pace.”
In the film, written and directed by Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell…
“A teenage girl and her father travel to a remote alien moon, aiming to strike it rich. They’ve secured a contract to harvest a large deposit of the elusive gems hidden in the depths of the moon’s toxic forest. But there are others roving the wilderness and the job quickly devolves into a fight to survive. Forced to contend not only with the forest’s other ruthless inhabitants, but with her own father’s greed-addled judgment, the girl finds she must carve her own path to escape.”
Jay Duplass, Sophie Thatcher, Pedro Pascal, Andre Royo, Sheila Vand and Anwan Glover star.
