With Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep headed our way later this year, we’ve learned today that Warner Bros. has completed a 4K restoration of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, which is first headed to the Cannes Film Festival and will then, we assume, be released on home video.
As reported by Indiewire today, Alfonso Cuarón will be on hand to present a midnight showing of the 4K restoration at Cannes, part of this year’s Cannes Classics lineup!
The 4K remastering was done using a new 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative.
“The mastering was done at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging, and the color grading was done by Janet Wilson, with supervision from Stanley Kubrick’s former personal assistant Leon Vitali.”
As soon as we hear about a 4K Ultra HD release, we’ll let you know!
Cannes runs from May 14 – May 25.
