First Official Photo from ‘The Fanatic’; Cannes Screening Canceled at the Request of John Travolta

Previously titled Moose, Bloody Disgusting has the first ever photos and sales art for The Fanatic, an indie thriller directed by Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst.

The above photo shows Moose (played by John Travolta), who gets cheated out of meeting his hero, Hunter Dunbar (Devon Sawa; Idle Hands, Final Destination). Moose then hunts down Dunbar to get the celebrity interaction he feels he deserves. “Harmless at first, Moose’s actions begin to take a dark turn. Against the advice of his friend Leah (Ana Golja), Moose begins to make frequent visits to his hero’s private home. As the visits continue to escalate, Dunbar find himself in increasing danger.”

The Fanatic was set to screen for buyers at the ongoing Cannes market until it was canceled at the request of Travolta, who allegedly didn’t like the cut of the film and decided to do a re-edit of the picture. An email was allegedly blasted out to buyers with this information.

We had previously reported rumors that Amazon had acquired the film for U.S. release later this year.

UPDATE: Quiver Distribution will be releasing The Fanatic in theaters on September 6.

The story was allegedly inspired by a real-life fan who pursued Durst many years ago. The screenplay was written by Durst and Dave Bekerman. Principal photography took place in Alabama.
