H.R. Giger Designed an Unused Batmobile for ‘Batman Forever’ and It Was Basically a Xenomorph Mobile

Published

on

The late H.R. Giger is of course most known for designing the Xenomorph in the original Alien, one of the most iconic monsters in the history of cinema. Without Giger’s game-changing creation, even Ridley Scott admits, Alien probably wouldn’t even exist, but the Swiss artist’s contributions to the world of cinema don’t start and stop with the Alien franchise.

In the wake of Alien, Giger created designs for Poltergeist II: The Other Side and Species, and in the early ’90s, he was even approached to do some design work on Batman Forever. Giger submitted a boldly unique design for the film’s Batmobile, re-imagining the Caped Crusader’s iconic vehicle in his own biomechanical style. Alas, of course, the design was not used.

Every so often, Giger’s Batmobile concept art makes the rounds, and since it has again re-surfaced this week, along with a new 3D model based on the design, we wanted to share it with those of you who maybe haven’t ever seen the designs before. Not surprisingly, Giger’s take on the Batmobile looks like it belongs in the Alien universe, calling to mind his design for the “Derelict” ship seen in Ridley Scott’s original classic. It wasn’t quite what Joel Schumacher was looking for, but Giger’s Batmobile was one hell of a visionary new take on the classic ride.

You know H.R. Giger art when you see it, that’s for damn sure!

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
