‘Terrifier 2’ Has Been Funded and Will Begin Filming This Fall!

Published

on

Back in 2013, Damian Leone introduced the world to Art the Clown in the film All Hallows’ Eve, and the character was subsequently given his own spinoff in the gory Terrifier. In the film, a maniacal clown (Art) terrorizes three young women on Halloween night (and everyone else who stands in his way), and it earned rave reviews from gore-hounds in particular.

We recently learned that Leone had written and was planning to make Terrifier 2, and an update from the film’s official Facebook today announces that it’s officially happening!

In the upcoming sequel:

After being resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to Miles County where he must hunt down and destroy a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween.

Here’s the full update from Leone today:

“Thank you all very much for your patience! We are thrilled to finally announce that Terrifier 2 is funded and slated to begin filming in the fall of this year! Our production company Dark Age Cinema is producing one again which means the inmates are still running the asylum. We are unchained and unrestricted, so rest assured, Terrifier 2 will be the merciless, no holds barred follow-up you’ve been hoping for. If you thought we pushed the envelope in part 1…you haven’t seen anything yet.”

“Now since the scope of Terrifier 2 is 10x bigger than the original, we can still really use your help! Thankfully, we’ve gotten numerous requests at conventions and on social media to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the sequel so that is our goal! In the coming weeks we will launch a small Indiegogo campaign with the hopes of raising some much needed additional funds.”

“Perks will range from social media shout outs to screen worn Art the Clown accessories, to even being killed by the man himself in Terrifier 2! If we reach our goal, the proceeds will go towards the biggest and most mind blowing scene in the script which requires an unprecedented amount of special effects, extras and stunts. Now although I cannot spoil the details of the scene, try to imagine if Art the Clown was in charge of the prom mayhem in Carrie! With your help, we can truly turn this scene into an unforgettable piece of horror cinema.”

“Again, we want to thank you from the bottom of our black hearts for your constant support and patience. We mean it when we say, the success of Terrifier is based solely on the dedication of our fanbase. In return, we want you to be involved every step of the way and we promise to deliver a film that surpasses your expectations!”

The first film was released by Dread Presents.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has two awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Nicolas Winding Refn Shares Early Art for His ‘Maniac Cop’ Franchise Revival

Published

Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, The Neon Demon, Her Private Hell) is gearing up to start filming his next movie Maniac Cop, a fresh take on the cult classic slasher from the 1980s.

It could still be several months before the production kicks off, but Nicolas Winding Refn has already taken to social media this week to show off a piece of very early teaser art.

Check out NWR’s Maniac Cop tease below and read on for everything we know.

First conceived as a feature then reworked as a series for HBO, the new take on the 1988 slasher is once again set up as a feature, with MUBI now on board to finance the movie.

From what we understand, a wide theatrical release is planned.

In the original Maniac Cop from director William Lustig, innocent people are brutally killed on the streets of New York by a uniformed police officer. A young cop, Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell), finds himself marked as the chief suspect after his wife is murdered.

As Lieutenant Frank McCrae (Tom Atkins) investigates, the death toll rises and he suspects a mysterious police cover-up. This maniac cop (Robert Z’Dar) must be stopped, but it might not be so easy. He seems inhuman, and he’s ready to take on the entire police force.

“The concept has always appealed to me,” Nicolas Winding Refn said in a statement to Deadline last month. “In today’s political and social climate, the iconography of Maniac Cop alone provokes an immediate, uneasy reaction. I’ve been watching it all unfold while constructing this project in the shadows… waiting. Now, that moment has finally arrived.”

The time has come to unveil a radical new vision where there is no protection, no safety net, only mayhem,” Refn’s official statement continued.

Maniac Cop in Nicolas’s hands is not a remake. It is a resurrection,” said Efe Cakarel, Founder and CEO of MUBI. “Nicolas has one of the most dangerous imaginations in modern cinema, and he is exactly the filmmaker to reawaken something this iconic. We’re proud to be partnering with him on a film that feels bold, singular and impossible to ignore.”

Expect NWR’s Maniac Cop sometime in 2027.
