Max Minghella in The Social Network

This morning, Bloody Disgusting exclusively confirmed the addition of Samuel L. Jackson to the cast of SAW, the ninth installment of the popular franchise that will be helmed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV).

Production has officially begun on the still-untitled film, in which Chris Rock will play a police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes and Jackson will portray Rock’s father, Bloody Disgusting learned. Also joining the cast will be Max Minghella (pictured above; Horns, The Darkest Hour) who will play William Schenk, Rock’s partner and Marisol Nichols (pictured below; Scream 2, “Riverdale”) will play Capt. Angie Garza, Rock’s boss.

The film will offer fans worldwide a new amped-up level of deviously treacherous traps, clever clues and the edge-of-the-seat suspense they expect from one of the world’s most terrifying horror franchises.

And for those wondering, the film is in production as “SAW IX” and will be canonized, which is confirmed by Joe Drake, Chairman of the Lionsgate.

“We think Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock along with Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols make this film completely special in the SAW canon and we can’t wait to unleash this unexpected and sinister new story on fans of this franchise,” said Drake. “This is next level of SAW on full tilt.”

There’s also still no word on if we’ll see Tobin Bell‘s Jigsaw in this new installment, which will be released on October 23, 2020.

The film is produced by longtime SAW filmmakers Mark Burg and Oren Koules – who are back once again to shepherd this re-imagining. The film itself, being described as “a SAW experience,” was developed based on Chris Rock’s love of the franchise and written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The film will be executive produced by Chris Rock, long-time SAW executive producer Daniel Heffner and the original creators of SAW, James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

Dev Patel’s ‘Monkey Man’ Is Now Available to Watch at Home!

After pulling in $28 million at the worldwide box office this month, director (and star) Dev Patel’s critically acclaimed action-thriller Monkey Man is now available to watch at home.

You can rent Monkey Man for $19.99 or digitally purchase the film for $24.99!

Monkey Man is currently 88% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with Bloody Disgusting’s head critic Meagan Navarro awarding the film 4.5/5 stars in her review out of SXSW back in March.

Meagan raves, “While the violence onscreen is palpable and painful, it’s not just the exquisite fight choreography and thrilling action set pieces that set Monkey Man apart but also its political consciousness, unique narrative structure, and myth-making scale.”

“While Monkey Man pays tribute to all of the action genre’s greats, from the Indonesian action classics to Korean revenge cinema and even a John Wick joke or two, Dev Patel’s cultural spin and unique narrative structure leave behind all influences in the dust for new terrain,” Meagan’s review continues.

She adds, “Monkey Man presents Dev Patel as a new action hero, a tenacious underdog with a penetrating stare who bites, bludgeons, and stabs his way through bodies to gloriously bloody excess. More excitingly, the film introduces Patel as a strong visionary right out of the gate.”

Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

Monkey Man is produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.
