As everyone knows (and is entirely fed up with) by now, the Friday the 13th franchise is currently dead in the water while legal issues are being sorted out, and it could be several more years before we see Jason back on the big screen… if we ever even do, in our lifetimes.
But while we wait, we can at least *talk* about potential futures for the franchise. And speaking of which, Jason Lives writer/director Tom McLoughlin just told The Pod and the Pendulum that he has written a brand new Friday script that he hopes to someday pitch!
“I finally came up with the formula for what I wanted to do and things about six months ago, and wrote the screenplay,” McLoughlin told the podcast’s hosts.
He continued, “And now, I’m stopped dead in my tracks with the lawsuit with Sean Cunningham and Victor Miller, so it’s like I can’t even show it to the studios or anybody.”
McLoughlin also noted that the script stays true to the structure of the Friday the 13th franchise, while infusing it with freshness. Sort of like Jason Lives did back in 1986, really.
Alas, nothing whatsoever can be done with the franchise at this time. Sigh.
