During last night’s ScareDiego panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, director Andy Muschietti and the adult cast of IT: Chapter Two were on hand to discuss the upcoming sequel, as well as show off clips that were exclusive to the SDCC crowd. Our own Katie Simpson attended the event last night and wrote up a recap for us, which you can check out right here.
Another interesting little bit that came out of ScareDiego last night was that Muschietti was asked, hypothetically, if there are any other horror classics he’d like to put his own spin on. Muschietti’s answer? Joe Dante’s 1981 werewolf classic, The Howling!
In Katie’s own words, “During some quick-fire questions from the audience, Andy Muschietti was asked if there was any horror he would – or wouldn’t – remake. Muschietti, following encouragement from Bill Hader, expressed he would love to remake 1981 flick “The Howling”. Muschietti noted that a lot of classics from the last few decades get overlooked as the younger generations don’t venture back that far to watch them, and are consequently missing out.”
“If you remade The Howling, that would be rad,” Bill Hader replied to Muschietti.
It’s important to note that this really means nothing – just because Muschietti *wants* to remake The Howling doesn’t mean that’s going to happen – but it’s amusing to note nonetheless. And it’s pretty exciting to even imagine Muschietti’s The Howling, as he’s exactly the kind of filmmaker who could bring werewolves back to prominence and make them truly terrifying again. Muschietti had toyed with Pennywise transforming into a werewolf in IT 2017, a fun little homage to the novel, and we’d love to see him full-on tackle a werewolf flick.
