Spectacular New ‘Doctor Sleep’ Trailer Plays Into Our Love of ‘The Shining’ [Video]
Ewan McGregor leads the cast as Danny Torrance in Mike Flanagan‘s Doctor Sleep, both an adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel novel and a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. Today, Warner Bros. went a little mad and has released the film’s final trailer that’s nothing short of spectacular.
The footage plays into our recent obsession with nostalgia, focusing heavily on the imagery from Kubrick’s The Shining, hitting us with shots of the twins, the Overlook Hotel, young Danny on his Big Wheel, and blood spewing out of the elevator door – not to mention a breathtaking sweeping shot that echoes the opening of the 1980 film. It also finally offers us a story arc for the sequel, which looks to perfectly fit into the Shining “Universe”.
Here’s the trailer with more plot details below.
In Doctor Sleep, still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance (McGregor) has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.

Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
McGregor stars alongside Rebecca Ferguson as Rose O’Hara (aka Rose the Hat), a character King introduced in Doctor Sleep. Carl Lumbly is playing Dick Hallorann with Alex Essoe as Wendy Torrance in the continuation of the storyline from The Shining. Kyliegh Curran has been cast in the role of Abra Stone, a girl who has the gift of ‘The Shining’. Bruce Greenwood plays the role of Dr. John. Alyn Lind is Snakebite Andi, with Jocelin Donahue and Jacob Tremblay also starring.
Doctor Sleep hits theaters on November 8, 2019.

‘Hold the Fort’ Trailer Pits New Homeowners Against an Onslaught of Monsters
Sunrise Films has announced the official North American release of William Bagley‘s horror comedy Hold the Fort, and it’s accompanied by an energetic new trailer.
Hold the Fort debuts on digital platforms on June 23.
In the film, “Lucas and Jenny think their life is finally coming together when the couple become homeowners. Little do they know that their new house comes with a big catch. Lucas and Jenny soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when they become trapped in a battle between their Homeowners Association and an onslaught of monsters from hell. The horror-comedy takes the timely concern of home-ownership and wraps this up in an entertaining action-packed thrill ride.“
Watch the new trailer below, which introduces one wild HOA gathering during an equinox. Things get bloody fast.
Chris Mayers (Adult Swim Yule Log), Haley Leary (“The Walking Dead”), Levi Burdick, and Julian Smith star.
William Bagley writes and directs, in addition to producing with Smith, Matt Dodd, Luke Williams, and Tim Reis (Adult Swim Yule Log).
Ahead of the release, Bagley said, “My goal with this film was to make a hilarious, fast-paced thrill ride while also telling a great story with heart. Hopefully, through all the blood, laughs, fights, and gags, you leave the film feeling inspired to tackle whatever life throws at you.“
Hold the Fort premiered at Fantasia last summer before going on to play FrightFest London, Toronto After Dark, and Beyond Fest.
I wrote in my review, “It’s an infectiously charming assemblage of jokes and monster vignettes bound together by a barebones plot with not much on its mind beyond delivering an entertaining time.”
