“He’s my hero. He’s been my hero since I was a kid.”
If you don’t want to wait until November, Fandango is bringing Mike Flanagan‘s Doctor Sleep to theaters for one-night early showings on October 30th, so it’s only natural that we’re talking Doctor Sleep this week. On that note, a brand new featurette video released today showcases the very first meeting between Flanagan and his idol, horror master Stephen King.
King and Flanagan discuss Doctor Sleep in the featurette, an adaptation of King’s novel that also serves as a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s film. All these years after being disappointed by Kubrick’s adaptation of The Shining – King has made no secret of the fact that he’s not a fan of what Kubrick did with his novel – it seems King is finally happy with the film’s legacy and Flanagan’s continuation of it. You can check out the brand new video below.
Ewan McGregor leads the cast as adult Danny, with Rebecca Ferguson as Rose the Hat.
Carl Lumbly is playing Dick Hallorann with Alex Essoe as Wendy Torrance in the continuation of the storyline from The Shining. Kyliegh Curran has been cast in the role of Abra Stone, a girl who has the gift of ‘The Shining’. Bruce Greenwood plays the role of Dr. John. Alyn Lind is Snakebite Andi, with Jocelin Donahue and Jacob Tremblay also starring.
In Doctor Sleep, still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.
Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
Doctor Sleep hits theaters everywhere on November 8, 2019.
