If it weren’t already obvious, Glenn Danzig‘s hotly-anticipated Verotika is no longer arriving on VOD platforms today and will instead release at a later date, sometime in 2020. Producer James Cullen Bressack tweeted the news back on Oct. 21.
Plans were announced for a Halloween dated Fathom Events-styled theatrical run and VOD platform release, with Blu-ray and DVD arriving by year’s end. However, Verotika has been screening across the country in special one night only events. Keep your eyes open for one near you.
We’ll update you guys when the filmmakers and distributor Cleopatra Entertainment announce a full strategy for next year. In the meantime, Danzig is hard at work on his horror-western.
Verotika is a direct adaptation of Danzig’s comic books that became the buzz of the film world when reviews dubbed it an instant cult classic that joins the ranks of best-worst-movies The Room and Birdemic. Our very own Patrick Bromley called it the “horror equivalent of The Room” in his review.
As I noted from the Cinepocalypse World Premiere, Danzig was on hand to introduce the film and for a post-screening Q+A. He didn’t seem to understand the laughter, yet his passion for the project was clearly unparalleled. He made his movie, his way, and was proud of it. If anything, Verotika is authentic – and that’s what separates this from wannabe bad movies like Sharknado. It’s a must-see film.
