Saban Films announced out of the American Film Market that they have acquired North American rights to writer/director Jason Lei Howden’s (Deathgasm) Guns Akimbo following its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Raphael wrote in his review that the film, “Delivers fun, dumb video game action.“
The darkly comedic action sci-fi thriller stars Daniel Radcliffe (the Harry Potter franchise, Swiss Army Man, Now You See Me 2) and Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
Guns Akimbo watches a nerdy video game developer (Radcliffe) become the next contestant in an illegal live-streamed deathmatch, in this hilariously dark, viciously violent, and chillingly prescient sci-fi thriller.
“With gaming on the rise, Guns Akimbo is a timely film that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats,” commented Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley. “Daniel is in a role you’ve never seen him in before. He and Samara shine throughout this thought-provoking take on the gaming industry’s future.”
Rhys Darby (“Flight of the Conchords”, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, “The Society”) and Ned Dennehy (“Good Omens”, “Peaky Blinders”) round out the cast.
Watch for distribution news in 2020.
