In the wake of Rupert Wyatt and Matt Reeves’ incredible trilogy that began with Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011 and came to end with 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, THR is reporting today that the Disney-owned 20th Century Fox is now developing a brand new Apes movie, with Wes Ball (director of all three Maze Runner films) on board to direct.
Will the movie hit the reboot button once more, you ask? THR notes:
“It is unclear whether the new Apes project is meant to be a new reboot or an extension of the previous film series.”
This epic story began with Pierre Boulle’s 1963 novel La Planète des singes, and 20th Century Fox has distributed multiple different movies dating back to the original in 1968.
The saga is set within a world where humans and intelligent apes clash for control.
