Fresh off its premiere at Sundance, Deadline is reporting today that NEON has closed a deal for North American rights to the psychodrama Shirley, directed by Josephine Decker.

Meagan reviewed Shirley for us at Sundance and wrote that it “offers up genre elements and a psychologically driven story about one of horror’s greatest authors of all time.”

The film “tells the story of what happens when a young couple moves in with the famed author, Shirley Jackson, and her Bennington College professor husband, Stanley Hyman. The young couple hopes to start a new life but instead find themselves fodder for a psycho-drama that inspires Shirley’s next novel.”

Elisabeth Moss stars alongside Michael Stuhlbarg, Odessa Young, and Logan Lerman.

Sarah Gubbins wrote the script.
