Hollywood’s search for the next Curry Barker or Kane Parsons continues with Lust, a new horror movie from social media and YouTube creator Spencer Lackey.
What’s more is that THR reports that genre powerhouses Neon, Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Spooky Pictures are teaming up on the pic.
Lackey, who will write and direct, will receive guidance from producers Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity) for Spooky Pictures, and Jason Blum and James Wan for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Neon and Blumhouse Atomic Monster co-financing the project.
Plot details remain under wraps at this time, of course.
Lackey has amassed over 6 million followers across Instagram and TikTok, and nearly 669,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel that focuses on short form horror content. Last Halloween, Lackey released short “You Are Here,” which features an associate producer credit from Mike Flanagan.
The filmmaker is partially glimpsed above in a creepy short of many that frequently depict ghosts and monsters observing him doing mundane tasks, like sleeping or laundry.
Lust joins an emerging trend of YouTube-to-feature filmmaking pipeline in the wake of Obsession and Backrooms massive success at the box office this year. The news arrives mere days after YouTuber Sam Evenson was snatched up to translate short “Ignore It” to feature film. Trevor Henderson, whose viral art provides his fanbase with regular nightmare fuel, as a feature adaptation of his Siren Head and Cartoon Cat on the way, as another example.
