A small screen “Battlestar Galactica” reboot is in the works for the Peacock streaming service, we recently learned, and a film from Universal Pictures is also still being developed.
TheWrap is reporting today that Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, “The Twilight Zone”) is on board to write a new script, and he’s also set to produce with Dylan Clark.
“Battlestar Galactica is one of the holy grails in science fiction, and I couldn’t be more excited about bringing something new to the franchise, while honoring what’s made it so iconic and enduring,” Kinberg said in a statement to TheWrap. “I’m so grateful that Dylan and my partners at Universal have trusted me with this incredible universe.”
Writers Jay Basu and Lisa Joy were attached to the project for previous drafts.
In the original 1978 “Battlestar Galactica” series, which was rebooted for a brand new series in 2004, “After the destruction of the Twelve Colonies of Mankind, the last major fighter carrier leads a makeshift fugitive fleet on a desperate search for the legendary planet Earth.”
