One of the coolest “X-Men” stories is The Dark Phoenix Saga, in which Jean Grey basically goes full Thanos. Since the arrival of the X-Men films in 2000, it’s the storyline fans have been begging for, especially after being teased at the end of X2.
Abandoned by the previous films, Twentieth Century Fox began building its way back up to the massive story with X-Men: First Class and is now set to deliver the finale on June 7th. It’s unfortunate that it’s coming with a bit of a whimper as Disney consumes Fox and plans to give the mutants a much-needed break.
This morning, Fox released the final trailer for Simon Kinberg‘s Dark Phoenix, starring actress Sophie Turner as a fiery Jean Grey. It’s looking like a mess of special effects and a slog of several similar sequences in which the X-Men get their butts handed to them by Phoenix. With that said, I can’t wait to watch her kick Magneto’s ass.
Set in 1992, about 10 years after the events of 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, “Dark Phoenix opens with the X-Men, including Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters), in a new, unexpected role: national heroes. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) even lands on the cover of Time magazine. But his growing ego puts the team at risk.”
