Lionsgate’s ‘Prey for the Devil’ Features ‘Candyman’ Star Virginia Madsen
Announced late last year and filmed this past spring, Bloody Disgusting now has the full cast for Lionsgate’s supernatural thriller Prey for the Devil (The Devil’s Light), directed by The Last Exorcism‘s Daniel Stamm and written by Halloween H20: 20 Years Later‘s Robert Zappia.
Starring are Jackie Byers (“Scared Stiff”, “The Strain”), Colin Salmon (Resident Evil, Alien vs. Predator, Nobody), and Candyman‘s Virginia Madsen, the latter of which recently appeared in the James Wan-produced “Swamp Thing” series.

“The Devil’s Light tells the story of Sister Ann, a restless 25-year-old, who devoutly believes that performing exorcisms is her calling. But she is at odds with the institution’s traditions: sisters are not allowed to perform exorcisms, only priests. With the support of a mentor, a professor who senses her special gift, she is allowed to observe actual training sessions. Her desire to prove herself takes a personal turn when she meets one of the school’s most disturbed patients. During their harrowing encounters, Sister Ann comes face to face with a demonic force that infests the school and has mysterious ties to her own past. It is then that the power of evil and her own startling abilities are fully realized.”
The film was produced by Paul Brooks (Pitch Perfect franchise, The Haunting in Connecticut, White Noise), Jessica Malanaphy, Todd Jones and Earl Richey Jones. Executive Producers are Scott Niemeyer, David Brooks and Brad Kessell.

Zach Cregger is no stranger to violent movies, with his first two at-bats in the horror genre yielding the films Barbarian and Weapons. But even those movies can’t compete with the level of violence on display in his next movie Resident Evil, he teases in a new chat.
Zach Cregger tells Empire Magazine that Resident Evil is “definitely the most violent thing I’ve done.” He teases, “You gotta go grotesque! I wanted to go all the way.”
“So it’s gnarly. It’s brutal,” Cregger continues. “A very bloody affair.”
He also tells Empire, “Fleshing out what [the Umbrella Corporation is] up to and how the T-virus works, that’s not what this movie is. This movie is about one dude’s journey on foot, fighting monsters. I don’t give a fuck about checking boxes. All I cared about was just telling a fun story. We step on the gas at about eight minutes in and never take our foot off the floor.”
Resident Evil opens in theaters and IMAX September 18 from Sony.
The film is being billed as “a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise” from the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons).
Austin Abrams (Weapons) stars as Bryan, a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in a non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.
Zach Cherry (“Severance”), Kali Reis (“True Detective: Night Country”), Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”), and Johnno Wilson (“Twisted Metal”) round out the cast.
