Relive the Magic of Seeing Wes Craven’s ‘Scream’ in Theaters on October 10th!

“I’m feelin’ a little woozy here!”

One of the best theater experiences of my life was the surprise of Wes Craven’s slasher, Scream, which slayed audiences over Christmas break way back in 1996. It was such a great time that we ended up seeing it multiple times over the holidays, many of which resulted in heavy audience participation similar to that of Rocky Horror Picture Show. While the initial box office opening was soft, word of mouth turned Scream into the horror event of the decade.

Now, to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary, younger audiences who weren’t around for that special moment have a chance of their own to experience Wes Craven’s masterpiece in theaters.

While full details have yet to be announced, Fathom Events has dated Scream for a theatrical re-release on October 10, 2021.

In the 1996 horror classic, “A teenage girl becomes the target of a killer who has stalked and killed one of her classmates. A tabloid news reporter is determined to uncover the truth, insisting that the man who raped and killed Campbell’s mother one year earlier is the same man who is terrorizing her now. Campbell’s boyfriend becomes the prime suspect.”

David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, and Skeet Ulrich star in Wes Craven’s Scream, which was written by Kevin Williamson.

The event preludes the film’s 4K release (Oct. 19) and the subsequent sequel, also titled Scream, in theaters on January 14, 2022.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
