‘The Crow’ Remake – Ed Pressman Says New Director and Cast Coming Soon

The remake of genre classic The Crow has been on-again, off-again so many times it’s become hard to keep track, with Corin Hardy (The Nun) most recently attached to adapt a new adaptation of James O’Barr’s comic books. That version of The Crow remake was going to star Jason Momoa as the title character, but alas, that project has fallen apart over the years.

So what’s the current status of a new take on The Crow? Ed Pressman remains the rights holder of the property, and the producer reveals in a chat with Indiewire this week that he hasn’t yet given up on a big screen reboot of the franchise. In fact, according to the site, “Ed said he and his partners expected to announce a new director and cast in the near future.”

Pressman tells Indiewire, “The Crow is a kind of anti-superhero, unique to the world of graphic novels.” The site notes that the property is “currently being developed as a reboot.”

It was of course back in 1994 that director Alex Proyas first brought The Crow to the big screen, that cult classic film infamously leading to the tragic on-set death of star Brandon Lee.

The original movie ended up spawning three sequels, most recently The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005. That film saw Edward Furlong take over the role of the title character.

There was also the Canadian television series “The Crow: Stairway to Heaven,” which aired in 1998 and featured Mark Dacascos in the role of the vengeful Eric Draven.

More recently, F. Javier Gutierrez almost brought The Crow back to life with a brand new remake, which had both Tom Hiddleston and Luke Evans attached at various points.

Are we finally getting closer to The Crow taking flight once more? Or will this turn out to be yet another false start? It’s impossible to say at this time but we’ll keep you posted.
