This week’s new horror offerings are led by TWO recent A24 movies that are getting wider releases at home and in theaters, and Netflix is back with some original horror of their own.

In total, we’re getting SIX brand new horror movies this week!

Here’s everything headed our way between August 9-August 14, 2022.

First up, A24 and director Alex Garland‘s new horror movie Men is now available on Blu-ray and Digital as of today, August 9th, the film released in theaters back in May of this year.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her Men review for Bloody Disgusting, “Alex Garland’s adherence to the abstract will be divisive, but those that don’t mind enigmatic descents into surrealistic, gruesome horror will find this a trip worth taking.” She also notes that the latest A24 horror film “bides its time with a measured unsettling until an insane, unforgettable third act.”

Men stars Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear and Paapa Essiedu.

“In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper (Buckley) retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears in visionary filmmaker Alex Garland’s shape-shifting new horror film.”

The latest film from Dread Presents, Tin Can is a science fiction thriller that has also been released on Digital today, ahead of the film’s Blu-ray release on September 6th, 2022.

In the film, “As the world faces a deadly plague, humanity’s hope for a cure lies with a scientist (Anna Hopkins) who awakens imprisoned in a metal chamber.

“She desperately works to escape her confined cell to save the last of humanity.”

Seth A. Smith co-wrote and directed Tin Can, now available on VOD.

A heart-pounding tale of survival from the producers of 47 Meters Down, Lionsgate’s Fall will be releasing in theaters this Friday, August 12th, set to tap into our collective fear of heights.

“For best friends Becky (Grace Caroline Currey) and Hunter (Virginia Gardner), life is all about conquering fears and pushing limits. But after they climb 2,000 feet to the top of a remote, abandoned radio tower, they find themselves stranded with no way down.

“Now Becky and Hunter’s expert climbing skills will be put to the ultimate test as they desperately fight to survive the elements, a lack of supplies, and vertigo-inducing heights in this adrenaline-fueled thriller.”

Also starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, “The Walking Dead”), Fall is produced & directed by Scott Mann (Final Score) and written by Mann and Jonathan Frank (Final Score).

A24‘s new horror movie Bodies Bodies Bodies was released in select theaters last Friday, August 5, 2022, and it’s going wide and releasing in more theaters on August 12, 2022.

In the A24 murder-mystery, “When a group of rich 20-somethings plan a hurricane party at a remote family mansion, a party game turns deadly in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong.”

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for BD, “Using a familiar social deduction game to implode an affluent group of fake friends in the most heinous way makes for a dementedly fun time that’s just as mean-spirited with the horror as it is the comedy.”

The cast for A24’s latest movie includes Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Pete Davidson, Rachel Sennott, Myha’la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, and Lee Pace.

Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dogg are “cuttin’ necks and cashin’ checks” in Netflix‘s vampire movie Day Shift, which will be sinking its teeth into the streaming service on August 12.

The Day Shift trailer smartly markets the film as being “from the guys who taught John Wick how to kick ass,” so we’ve got all the makings for blood-sucking summer fun here.

“Foxx stars as a hard working blue collar dad who wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international union of hunters.”

The cast also includes Dave Franco, Karla Souza, Meagan Good, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Oliver Masucci, Snoop Dogg, Steve Howey, Scott Adkins, and Zion Broadnax.

All month long, Tubi brings back summer favorite SHARK MONTH: BITEFEST, a month-long programming event filled with heart-pumping, action-packed thrills, featuring two new Tubi Originals, SHARK BAIT and SHARK SIDE OF THE MOON, plus more than 70 films available to stream on FOX Entertainment’s free streaming service. 

Shark Side of the Moon premieres this Friday, August 12, only on Tubi.

From The Asylum, the Tubi Original travels back in time to the Cold War, when the USSR developed hyper-aggressive humanoid sharks.

Unable to kill them, USSR military scientists launched the sharks at the moon. Flash-forward to present day and the first team of American astronauts on the moon in decades must repair a module found on the dark side of the moon, where the astronauts encounter the unkillable Russian moon sharks and endure an epic fight for their lives.

On the small screen, new episodic anthology series “Tales of the Walking Dead” will premiere Sunday, August 14 at 9pm ET/8c on AMC and AMC+, with the first two episodes streaming that same night on AMC+. Subsequent episodes will stream one week early, beginning Sunday, August 21.

“Tales of the Walking Dead” will allow for standalone tales to be told, which should give the series a very different vibe from the established “Walking Dead” formula that has carried over from the main series into the other spinoffs we’ve seen thus far.

“Each one hour episode will feature both new and existing characters.”

Olivia Munn (The Predator) will appear in an episode of “Tales of the Walking Dead.”

The show’s cast also includes Daniella Pineda, Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Anthony Edwards and Poppy Liu. Confirmed directors for the “Tales of the Walking Dead” spinoff include Haifaa al-Mansour (Good Lord Bird), Deborah Kampmeier (Star Trek: Picard), Tara Nicole Weyr (The Wilds), and Michael Satrazemis (The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead).
