First up, SCREAMBOX Original horror movie Yellow Dragon’s Village is now streaming exclusively on the BD-powered SCREAMBOX, directed by Japanese filmmaker Yugo Sakamato.

The film follows a group of travelers who unwittingly become the prey of a homicidal family. After a flat tire derails their trip, a group of campers stumble upon a secluded village where they encounter a homicidal cult looking for their next sacrifice.

Yellow Dragon’s Village features a stellar young cast including Yuni Akino (My Favorite Girl), Itsuki Fujii (Cosmetic DNA) and Masayuki Inô (Green Bullet).

Written and directed by Yugo Sakamoto (Baby Assassins), the buzz surrounding Yellow Dragon’s Village has grown steadily since its festival release.

Takeshi Kushida’s debut feature, Dread picked up the rights to the Japanese horror movie Woman of the Photographs, and they just brought the film to VOD outlets today.

“The film follows a solitary and skilled digital photographer who begins a twisted romance with a model suffering from body dysmorphia and obsessed with appearing perfect in her photos.”

Hideki Nagai, Itsuki Otaki, Toki Koinuma and Toshiaki Inomata (Drive My Car) star.

“Today, we live in a world where even memories can be falsified by editing photos,” Takeshi Kushida said in a statement this week. “For those of us who live in such an era, I made this film to find out what real happiness is. It could be seen as a romance, comedy, or horror.

The filmmaker adds, “So I hope you enjoy it from your unique point of view.”

The latest from writer/director Patrick Rea (Nailbiter, I Am Lisa) is the horror movie They Wait in the Dark, and 1091 Pictures just released this one on VOD outlets today, February 7.

In the thriller from Smart Mouth Productions, “Amy (Sarah McGuire) and her adopted son Adrian (Patrick McGee) are on the run from Amy’s abusive ex-girlfriend, Judith (Laurie Catherine Winkel). Desperate to stay hidden, they take refuge in the abandoned farmhouse of Amy’s family outside her Kansas hometown.

“Soon, though, a supernatural force from Amy’s dark past begins haunting Adrian. With the vengeful Judith in pursuit, Amy and Adrian find themselves locked in a showdown between the threats both outside and in.” Paige Maria, Chris Bylsma and Meagan Flynn also star.

The final new release for today is Mean Spirited, the latest from genre label The Horror Collective. This one is being billed as a horror-comedy, and it’s centered on an influencer.

In the film, “A wannabe influencer sets out to bury the hatchet with his celebrity friend, just to find out that he is not quite himself anymore.”

Written and directed by Jeff Ryan, and co-written by Joe Adams (The AV Club), Mean Spirited has a cast including Michelle Veintimilla, Neville Archambault, Will Madden, Daniel Rashid, Will Martin, Maria DeCotis, and Charlie Pollock.

Co-writer and producer Joe Adams teases, “Falling out with friends is an experience most people know all too well. Mean Spirited shines a light on such heartache with a fun, fresh angle on the cabin-in-the-woods genre. In the age of social media, our movie explores the skewed lines between what’s real and what’s a show for the camera.”

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has two awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Hold the Fort Trailer

Sunrise Films has announced the official North American release of William Bagley‘s horror comedy Hold the Fort, and it’s accompanied by an energetic new trailer.

Hold the Fort debuts on digital platforms on June 23.

In the film,Lucas and Jenny think their life is finally coming together when the couple become homeowners. Little do they know that their new house comes with a big catch. Lucas and Jenny soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when they become trapped in a battle between their Homeowners Association and an onslaught of monsters from hell. The horror-comedy takes the timely concern of home-ownership and wraps this up in an entertaining action-packed thrill ride.

Watch the new trailer below, which introduces one wild HOA gathering during an equinox. Things get bloody fast.

Chris Mayers (Adult Swim Yule Log), Haley Leary (The Walking Dead), Levi Burdick, and Julian Smith star.

William Bagley writes and directs, in addition to producing with Smith, Matt Dodd, Luke Williams, and Tim Reis (Adult Swim Yule Log).

Ahead of the release, Bagley said,My goal with this film was to make a hilarious, fast-paced thrill ride while also telling a great story with heart. Hopefully, through all the blood, laughs, fights, and gags, you leave the film feeling inspired to tackle whatever life throws at you.

Hold the Fort premiered at Fantasia last summer before going on to play FrightFest London, Toronto After Dark, and Beyond Fest.

I wrote in my review,It’s an infectiously charming assemblage of jokes and monster vignettes bound together by a barebones plot with not much on its mind beyond delivering an entertaining time.
