‘Hypnotic’ – Robert Rodriguez Action Thriller Starring Ben Affleck Sets May Theatrical Release

Up next from Robert Rodriguez is the action thriller Hypnotic, and Deadline reports today that the film – which was previewed at SXSW – will be releasing in theaters this coming May.

Ben Affleck stars in Hypnotic, which will be released on 2,000 screens here in the United States by Ketchup Entertainment. You can expect the film on May 12, 2023.

Deadline notes in their report, “The looming release for a movie that remains unfinished is yet another talking point in the project’s tumultuous journey to screen.”

Rodriguez said in a statement, “I’ve been working on this film for many years now, and to see the reaction from my home town audience at SXSW was humbling and validating. I look forward to now sharing it with all movie lovers who want to experience a crazy fun ride full of unexpected twists and turns.”

In the film…

“A detective becomes entangled in a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program while investigating a string of impossible high-end heists.”

Rodriguez co-wrote Hypnotic with Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island).

‘Drop’ – Violett Beane Joins the Cast of Christopher Landon’s New Thriller

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
