‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ – New Trailer Ends the World and Begins the Franchise

Published

on

Before the Abbott family storyline continues in a third installment of the franchise, spinoff prequel A Quiet Place: Day One will be making its way into theaters on June 28, 2024.

We’ll discover why our world went quiet in A Quiet Place: Day One, which will expand the universe of John Krasinski’s hit horror franchise. Watch the brand new trailer below.

Horror franchises spicing up their formula with trips to New York City is of course nothing new, with Day One following in the wake of films like Jason Takes Manhattan, Scream VI and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Bringing these particular monsters into one of the loudest places in the world should make for some thrilling set pieces, several of which are previewed here.

Lupita Nyong’o (Us),  Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things”) and Alex Wolff (Hereditary) star. Michael Sarnoski (Pig) is headed to A Quiet Place to direct the brand new movie.

Djimon Hounsou, who appeared in A Quiet Place Part II, will reprise his role in Day One.

Entertainment Weekly detailed the upcoming movie’s prequel storyline, “Lupita Nyong’o stars as Sam, a woman who’s on a day trip to New York City when the monsters arrive.

“As everything quickly goes to hell, she’s thrown together with a man named Eric (Joseph Quinn). With some reluctance, the pair agree to navigate and survive the city together.”

The spinoff is based on an original idea by John Krasinski and Michael Sarnoski, and it was written by Sarnoski. Meanwhile, it’s expected that the Abbott family storyline will become a trilogy with Krasinski recently teasing that he has ideas for the third film in the main series.

John Krasinski will produce alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller via Platinum Dunes. A Quiet Place Part II opened to $57 million at the domestic box office in May 2021 and has earned $297 million worldwide, making it easy to see why this franchise is expanding.

The filmmakers behind Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey are expanding their public domain horror universe with a handful of upcoming “Poohniverse” movies, including Bambi: The ReckoningPinocchio: Unstrung, and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.

Variety has scored the first image from Neverland Nightmare, seen above.

The website details, “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare follows Wendy Darling as she strikes out in an attempt to rescue her brother Michael from ‘the clutches of the evil Peter Pan.’ Along the way she meets Tinkerbell, who in this twisted version of the story will be seen taking heroine, convinced that it’s pixie dust.”

Scott Jeffrey will direct Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, expected Halloween 2024.

Jeffrey tells us, “I am taking inspiration from French cinema while in prep for this movie. The film will be incredibly tense. I would say it’s a mesh between Switchblade Romance and The Black Phone with our own spin on it. It is a nasty, violent and incredibly dark movie.”

Megan Placito has joined the cast as Wendy Darling, Kit Green is Tinkerbell, Peter DeSouza-Feighoney (The Pope’s Exorcist) is Michael Darling and Charity Kase (RuPaul Drag Race) is James. Martin Portlock will be playing the twisted version of Peter Pan.

Created by J.M. Barrie way back in 1902, the character of Peter Pan – like Winnie the Pooh – is in the public domain, even if the iconic Disney iteration of the character is very much not.
