‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Heads Home to Paramount+ This Week
Director Michael Sarnoski’s A Quiet Place: Day One is set to begin streaming exclusively on Paramount+ tomorrow, August 27, in the U.S. and Canada.

In the film, “When Samira (Lupita Nyong’o) returns home to New York City, her simple trip turns into a harrowing nightmare when mysterious creatures that hunt by sound attack. Accompanied by her cat Frodo and an unexpected ally (Joseph Quinn), Samira must embark on a perilous journey through the city that has suddenly gone silent, where the only rule is to stay quiet to stay alive.”
I wrote in my review, “Instead of an apocalyptic monster movie, Sarnoski instead gifts a touching story of a woman determined to meet life on her terms. Sam’s journey is less shaped by the harrowing, intense encounters across the city and more so by the warmth and empathy from Eric and strangers like him.”
The spinoff is based on an original idea by John Krasinski and Michael Sarnoski, based on characters created by Bryan Woods & Scott Beck, and it was written by Sarnoski. Meanwhile, it’s expected that the Abbott family storyline will become a trilogy with expectations of A Quiet Place Part III arriving next year.
John Krasinski produces alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller via Platinum Dunes. A Quiet Place Part II opened to $57 million at the domestic box office in May 2021 and has earned $297 million worldwide, making it easy to see why this franchise continues to expand.
After scaring up a strong theatrical run, Oddity director Damian McCarthy’s Hokum heads home to Digital this week.
Settle in for a spooky supernatural chiller as Hokum arrives on all Digital platforms to rent or own beginning June 2, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on August 11, 2026.
Adam Scott (“Severance”) stars in Hokum as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.
Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) also star.

I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “A quaint Irish hotel with a deeply haunted history awaits an American writer in McCarthy’s third outing, continuing his streak for folkloric tales of supernatural karma and spine-tingling terror with a dark sense of humor.”
What’s next from Damian McCarthy? He’s currently writing a haunted house movie, but recent comments suggest he may be moving into other genres beyond that upcoming project.
