‘Witchboard’ Conjures Up New Image From Chuck Russell’s Horror Remake
A remake of Witchboard is on the way from Dream Warriors and The Blob director Chuck Russell, and a fresh new image from the horror remake has been conjured up on Halloween.
Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Aaron Dominguez (Only Murders in the Building), Antonia Desplat (Shantaram), Jamie Campbell Bower (“Stranger Things”), and Charlie Tahan (Ozark) star.
In Witchboard, “Emily (Iseman) and her fiancé Christian (Dominguez) are opening a café in New Orleans, but their plans take a dark turn when Emily discovers an ancient Witchboard, a mystical artifact once used to summon spirits. As Emily becomes obsessed with its power, Christian seeks the help of occult expert Alexander Babtiste, who harbors his own dark secrets. Babtiste draws the couple further into the occult where they find themselves in a race against time to break the board’s deadly curse before Emily becomes its next victim.”
The remake was written by Russell and Greg McKay.
Highland Film Group is handling international rights to the horror thriller, launching sales at the American Film Market.
“Witchboard is a chilling new take on a beloved horror classic. With slick looks, it’s a nod to the practical effects driven horror movies of the late ’90 and beyond,” said Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser. “Chuck Russell has expertly crafted a gripping and tense horror thriller that pulls its audience into the intoxicating dangers of the supernatural,” added Highland Film Group COO Delphine Perrier.
The remake of writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s original 1986 movie premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival earlier this year. Russell told Bloody Disgusting at the fest, “I put everything I hadn’t tried into this film. I hope that fans of my work will recognize my touch. But we have dreams; we have deadly hallucinations. We have body swaps; we have literal time travel. It’s fun in that regard, but number one is to scare the hell out of people, and I think we’ve done that, too.”
