‘Tremors’ Creators Win Back Script Rights; Kevin Bacon Could Return for a New Installment?
Stampede Entertainment, the team behind Tremors and its first three sequels, have won back the rights to the original script for the 1990 classic.
This allows director Ron Underwood, writers Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson, and producer Nancy Roberts to have some creative control over the future of their creation after being shut out of Universal Studios’ three most recent sequels. Precisely what they’re able to do with the rights they have, however, is still up in the air at this time.
“We aren’t reading outside ideas. We are discussing a return-to-Perfection sequel, and one or two more outlandish ideas featuring Graboids in new settings,” the team wrote on their website.
They continue, “Whatever we decide to pitch to Hollywood, it will not be a remake of the first movie with a new cast. Nor will it be a version of our original script for Tremors 5.
“We are considering ideas that feature the return of Kevin Bacon as Val, but no promises!”
Bacon reprised the role of Valentine McKee in a pilot for a Tremors TV series back in 2017, but Syfy passed on the show. The pilot never saw the light of day, but you can watch the trailer below.
Stampede has also enlisted Christian Francis to write a novelization of the original Tremors script, which was titled Beneath Perfection. Francis has authored novels based on Wishmaster, Session 9, and the forthcoming In the Mouth of Madness. On that note, since their script was not titled Tremors, it’s likely they can’t use that title for any of their own projects.
Stay tuned for more as we learn it on all things Tremors.
