‘Affection’ Catches ‘Happy Death Day’s Jessica Rothe In Another Cyclical Nightmare

Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe returns to familiar territory as she loses her memory and her grip on reality in Affection.

Screen Daily reports that Brainstorm Media has acquired the North American rights from Blue Finch Films. Expect a release later this year.

Rothe stars as Ellie Carter, who has never met the man who calls himself her husband, doesn’t recognize the girl who calls her mother, and can’t remember the life she is told is her own.

Afflicted by violent seizures that reset her memory without warning, she is trapped in a cyclical nightmare, struggling to uncover the horrifying truth of her existence — before she forgets it all over again.

Joseph Cross (“Big Little Lies”) and Julianna Layne (“Chicago P.D.”) also star in the sci-fi horror thriller.

Writer-director BT Meza makes his feature debut on the project. He also produces along with Bay Dariz, Austin Walk, and JP Ouellette.

Daniel Kurland wrote in his review out of the film’s Brooklyn Horror Film Festival premiere last fall, “Affection is an existential, claustrophobic examination of the self that’s more than its teases, twists, and turns.”

Affection has also sold to Germany (Tiberius Film), Benelux (Premiere TV Distribution), MENA (Falcon Films), and South Korea (Cinema Black).
