Renny Harlin (Deep Blue Sea) is throwing himself back into shark-infested waters with the upcoming Deep Water, and the film has received its rating from the MPA this week.
Deep Water is rated “R” for “violent content/bloody images and some language.”
Magenta Light Studios will release Deep Water in theaters May 1.

In Renny Harlin’s Deep Water, “A flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai goes down in the middle of the Pacific. After surviving the crash, the survivors soon discover they’re not alone and they must survive the shark infested waters. The terrified group is forced to work together and overcome their differences if they hope to escape their sinking plane and the frenzy of sharks.”
The screenplay was written by Pete Bridges and Shayne Armstrong & SP Krause.

In addition to Deep Blue Sea, considered by many horror fans to be one of the very best shark attack movies, Renny Harlin’s long career as a director in the horror genre includes the 1980s movies Prison and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. He also directed 2004 prequel The Exorcist: The Beginning, as well as the recent trilogy of The Strangers movies.

Renny Harlin is moving from sharks to killer whales with his next movie Black Tides, an orca horror movie starring John Travolta and the Scream franchise’s Melissa Barrera.
Black Tides follows Bill Pierce (Travolta), an estranged father trying to reconnect with his daughter Rebecca (Barrera) and grandson Sebastian when their sailboat is attacked by rogue orcas off the southern Spanish coast—setting off a fight for survival across open waters.
