Two years after Lionsgate and Blumhouse announced that they were teaming up on a new Blair Witch Project, the film finally seems to be moving forward.
Daniel Richtman alleges that Dylan Clark — who’s set to make his feature directorial debut on Universal’s Portrait of God with producers Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele — is attached to helm the remake.
Jason Blum will produce the new take on the seminal found footage horror classic alongside Roy Lee (Weapons, IT).
Directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, The Blair Witch Project follows three film students who vanish in the Maryland woods while shooting a documentary on a local legend, leaving only their footage behind.
The 1999 movie was produced for around $60,000 and earned $248.6 million at the global box office, making it one of the most successful independent films of all time.
It was followed by Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 in 2000 and Blair Witch in 2016, but neither could capture the lightning in a bottle of the original. Perhaps Clark will be the one to beat the curse.
