‘Salmokji: Whispering Water’ Trailer – Korean Box Office Smash Haunts US Theaters Friday

Supernatural horror film Salmokji: Whispering Water is making waves in its native South Korea ahead of its US release.

Variety reports that the movie has grossed $5 million from 724,036 admissions since its release on April 8 — the strongest domestic opening for a Korean horror film since 2024’s Exhuma.

In Salmokji: Whispering Water, an unidentified figure is captured in a street-view image of Salmokji, a remote reservoir. A reshoot is required to contain the situation — but a sense of dread surrounds the location, and no one is eager to return.

Despite the unease, Su-in leads the crew in place of her senior colleague, who previously vanished after visiting the area. The shoot quickly begins to unravel as crew members experience disturbing phenomena that defy explanation.

As the deep end of Salmokji reveals traces of something lurking beneath the surface, the team is forced to confront a presence that refuses to remain unseen–and a truth that should have never been surfaced.

Written and directed by Lee Sang-min, the film stars Kim Hye-Yoon, Lee Jong-Won, Kim Jun-Han, Kim Young-Sung, Oh Dong-min, Yoon Jae-chan, and Jang Da-ah.

Salmokji: Whispering Water will open in select theaters in North America this Friday, April 17. Watch the trailer below.
