Artificial intelligence becomes sentient this summer in Hot Spot.
From The Lure director Agnieszka Smoczyńska, the dystopian sci-fi thriller will be released in North American theaters on August 21 via Focus Features.
It will open against Insidious: Out of the Further, along with the action thriller Mutiny, the comedy Spa Weekend, and the crime thriller The Rivals of Amziah King.
Hot Spot is set in a near future society ruled by sentient AI, where a private eye investigates a murder case, only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord.
Andrzej Konopka (The Lure), Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), and Reika Kirishima (Drive My Car) star. Robert Bolesto (The Lure) penned the script.
The Polish-Greek co-production is produced by Poland’s Madants and its partners and Greece’s Neda Film and its partners.
Focus Features’ other upcoming genre titles include Obsession on May 15 and Robert Egger’s Werwulf on December 25.
