Living up to its title, Violent Night 2 has received an R rating for “strong/bloody violence, and language.”
For comparison’s sake, the first Violent Night was rated R for “strong bloody violence, language throughout, and some sexual references.”
The Christmas action sequel is coming down the chimney on December 4 via Universal Pictures.
David Harbour reprises his role as Santa Claus, joined by Kristen Bell as Mrs. Claus.
The cast also includes Daniela Melchior, Jared Harris, Joe Pantoliano, Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor, and pro wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
Tommy Wirkola (Thrash, Dead Snow) is back in the director’s chair, reuniting with Violent Night writers Pat Casey & Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog).
An official synopsis has not been revealed, but rumors suggest Santa will dish out justice to a ruthless crime lord and his henchmen in a crumbling shopping mall.
“There’s stuff we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves,” Wirkola noted last year. “But story-wise, I think we have a really, really cool idea that expands on the world and scope but still keeping that tone that we love from the first one.”
Violent Night 2 is produced by 87North founders Kelly McCormick & David Leitch (Bullet Train, Nobody) through their first-look deal with Universal.
