The recently released novel Victorian Psycho heads to the big screen this September, and The Hollywood Reporter has shared a brand new look at Maika Monroe in the film.
The psychological horror thriller Victorian Psycho will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this month before hitting theaters on September 25, 2026 via Bleecker Street.
Maika Monroe (It Follows, Longlegs) stars as an eccentric governess who arrives at a remote gothic manor where strange happenings stir suspicion that she’s not what she seems.
“It terrified me. I knew that it would be the hardest role that I have ever done — and so incredibly different from anything I’ve ever done,” Maika Monroe tells The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s always a little part of me in roles that I do, something that I can ground it with or connect it with within my own personal life — but this role was really a departure from that. It was working from the ground up, creating this character where I couldn’t rely on my own self. It really, in the most magical way, took a toll on me. I felt it every day.”
Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Jason Isaacs (“White Lotus”), Evie Templeton (“Wednesday,” Return to Silent Hill), Ruth Wilson (“Luther”), Amy De Bruhn (“Line of Duty”), and Jacobi Jupe (Hamnet) also star in the upcoming Victorian Psycho.
Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) directed the film from a script by author Virginia Feito (Mrs. March), based on her novel of the same name. Dan Kagan (Longlegs) produces.
