‘Obsession 2’: Curry Barker Already Has a Sequel Idea But We’ll Probably Have to Wait

'Obsession'

A viral box office sensation if there ever was one, Curry Barker’s Obsession is now approaching $300 million at the worldwide box office, with the movie still scaring up tons of money every single weekend. In Hollywood, of course, that means a sequel is inevitable.

Curry Barker has floated the idea of turning Obsession into an anthology TV series centered on the One Wish Willow, but don’t expect to see any new Obsession projects right away.

Barker told Total Film back in May, “I do see Obsession 2 [happening], maybe. Or even, what really is exciting to me, is maybe an anthology. Like a one-hour episode… each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails.”

Barker now tells The Hollywood Reporter in a brand new interview this week, “I have a lot to weigh and that’s where the stress really comes from. I don’t know what to do next.”

He notes, “I don’t want to go straight into Obsession 2. I have such a cool idea for it that I won’t say. I’m not saying it has to be five, six years from now. But I think people would be just as excited for it if it came a little down the road. It’s a whirlwind and I’m trying to figure it out.”

Curry Barker’s career is indeed a bit of a whirlwind at the moment, with the mega success of Obsession surprising everyone including its young filmmaker. Barker has immediately become a hot and in-demand filmmaker in Hollywood, with all possible doors opening up to him. His next is the paranormal comedy Anything But Ghosts, which has already wrapped filming.

Barker has also been handed the keys to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, and he aims to recapture the “rawness” of Tobe Hooper’s original classic for his own installment.
