‘Tower Defense’ – Paramount Movie Described as Medieval Supernatural Version of ‘Assault on Precinct 13’

'Assault on Precinct 13' (1976)

John Carpenter’s 1970s classic Assault on Precinct 13, itself inspired by Howard Hawks’ Rio Bravo, is being cited as an inspiration for the supernatural fantasy film Tower Defense, with The Hollywood Reporter letting us know that the project has been picked up by Paramount Primal.

The Hollywood Reporter details in their report this afternoon, “Plot details are being kept in the castle keep, but it is being described as a Medieval and supernatural fantasy twist on the concept seen in the early John Carpenter movie Assault on Precinct 13.”

The original concept comes from writer Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman).

Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 sees a highway patrol officer, two criminals, and a station secretary defend a defunct Los Angeles precinct office against a siege by a bloodthirsty street gang, so it’s safe to assume that Tower Defense is something of a medieval siege film. THR notes in their report that the aim is to make an “R” rated movie, with no director attached at this time.

While we wait for more, revisit the trailer for Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 below.

Paramount Primal is Paramount’s genre label run by J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules.
