The long-running Insidious franchise tiptoed through the tulips and found its way back into theaters this past weekend, with sixth franchise installment Insidious: Out of the Further now playing in theaters. But how much box office power does this franchise still have, 16 years later?
Insidious: Out of the Further debuted in the #2 spot at the U.S. box office over the weekend, second only to reigning champ Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The latest installment in the Insidious saga opened with $25.3 million in 3,303 theaters at the U.S. box office and $60.3 million worldwide.
How does that compare to the previous five installments in the world of Insidious?
Here are the domestic opening weekend numbers for each film in the franchise…

- Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) – $40.2 million
- Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) – $22.6 million
- Insidious: The Last Key (2018) – $29.5 million
- Insidious: The Red Door (2023) – $33 million
- Insidious: Out of the Further (2026) – $25.3 million
The highest grossing installment in the franchise to date is 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, which ended its run with $189 million at the worldwide box office. That’s the number Insidious: Out of the Further will be looking to approach in the coming weeks, and $60.3 million is a real solid start for a horror franchise film that cost just $18 million to bring to the big screen.
Insidious: Out of the Further is likely already profitable at the box office for Blumhouse and Sony, and if they can keep the budgets low, there’s no reason why we can’t head back into The Further many more times in the years to come. A spinoff movie titled Thread: An Insidious Tale had been announced several years back, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard a peep about that.
