Lollipop Chainsaw fans not only have a new entry in the series to look forward to next year, but there’s also a new film adaptation to go along with it. Per Deadline, the new film will be an R-rated action comedy prequel to the events of the original game, centering around the game’s protagonist, Juliet Starling.
This is in addition to an animated series, which will launch alongside the upcoming sequel.
Announced at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, the film is being developed by an international creative and production team comprising Nada Holdings boss Joe Teng, Orange Chariot’s Robert Franke , Throne Inc MD Takafumi Yuki, Ambitious Entertainment’s Kirk Shaw and Non Stop TV’s Patricio Rabuffetti.
“We are truly excited to see our vision take another important step with the franchise’s first live-action feature film,” states Dragami Games President Shohei Sato. “We are especially pleased to be working with such an experienced and passionate international team— one that understands what makes Lollipop Chainsaw special while embracing the opportunity to create something new.”
According to Franke, the film will feel “unmistakably true” to the spirit of Lollipop Chainsaw, while standing as its own entry. “Longtime fans will recognize the attitude, irreverence, and glorious excess they love, while newcomers can simply enjoy an unforgettable action-horror comedy. Our ambition is to create a film that entertains audiences everywhere, whether they’ve played the game or not.”
The recently-announced Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back is currently being developed for the PlayStation 5 (and most likely other platforms) for release in 2027.
