‘M3GAN’ Spin-Off ‘SOULM8TE’ Coming to Hulu in October

The legacy of Blumhouse‘s M3GAN franchise is quite fascinating. The movie itself, in which an AI-powered doll wreaks havoc on a family, isn’t an especially revolutionary idea. However, the first footage of the dancing doll took over social media, ensuring that the movie would score a PG-13 rating to accommodate as wide an audience as possible. M3GAN earned critical and financial success, resulting in M3GAN 2.0, which took a page from the Terminator playbook by having its sequel lean more into the action realm. The follow-up movie fell far short of the original’s critical and financial success, which confirmed how unique M3GAN‘s popularity really was.

The underwhelming reception of M3GAN 2.0 complicated things for SOULM8TE, an R-rated erotic thriller set in the same universe. Originally slated for a theatrical release, the movie was quietly pulled from the theatrical calendar and instead went straight to Digital. In case you missed the spin-off, or didn’t even know it existed, you’ll soon be able to check it out on Hulu.

SOUM8TE arrives on Hulu on October 1, which kicks off the streamer’s annual Huluween event. From the studio that brought you Obsession and Five Nights at Freddy’s, Blumhouse Atomic Monster launches its newest android — one that is sure to light your fire while keeping you on the edge of your seat. Booting up to fulfill your every need, anticipate your desires, and love you unconditionally, SOULM8TE, from director and co-writer Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother), delivers a provocative thriller that blurs the line between coded devotion and obsession.

Unnerving, sexy, suspenseful, and darkly compelling, SOULM8TE follows a grieving engineer tasked with testing a ruthless tech giant’s new artificially intelligent android. But when he attempts to program her to be a truly sentient soulmate, she develops needs of her own — unleashing a relentless spree of precision-engineered mayhem. SOULM8TE features captivating performances from Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise, Monolith), David Rysdahl (Alien: Earth, Fargo), Claudia Doumit (Where’d You Go, Bernadette, The Boys), and Arty Froushan (Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, Daredevil: Born Again).

The debut of the spin-off is only one of many ways the streaming platform will celebrate the season, as we can expect a variety of other all-new horror programs to hit the streamer as we head towards Halloween.

As it currently stands, there are no announced plans for more movies in the M3GAN franchise, whether they are spin-offs or sequels. However, SOULM8TE‘s release on Hulu could result in a surge of support for the erotic thriller.
