‘Obsession 2’: Inde Navarrette Would “Totally Be Open” to Returning for Sequel

The star weighed in on what her character might be up to after the credits rolled.

Inde Navarette stars a Nikki in 'Obsession'

While Curry Barker‘s Obsession seemed to unfold in a world quite similar to ours, the darkly fantastical One Wish Willow confirmed that this was actually a world where magic existed. Given the franchise-minded perspective of most studios, this type of magic could understandably be mined for other adventures set in this universe, whether they similarly followed other people using One Wish Willows or potentially explored other supernatural occurrences.

Even without expanding too far outside the familiar, though, there’s still a lingering question about what happened to Inde Navarrette‘s Nikki after the credits rolled. For a majority of the movie, she was fueled by a supernatural force, with her only snapping out of her fixation on Michael Johnston‘s Bear in the film’s final moments. So, in the event that Barker wants to proceed with a sequel, will Navarrette reprise her role?

“I would totally be open to doing a sequel. Are you kidding me? Who am I to say no?” Navarrette confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. “And what is she doing afterwards? I think the non-pretty answer, which I think is more important to give sometimes than kind of just giggling through answers, is she’s starting a grief process.”

She continued, “When things happen that are completely out of our control, like losing a loved one, losing a parent, losing autonomy, having an experience that wasn’t your fault, it’s very difficult to understand anything. She’s just starting the grief process.”

The idea of another installment that explores another character isn’t unfounded, as Barker shared with Total Film earlier this year, “I do see Obsession 2 [happening], maybe. Or even, what really is exciting to me, is maybe an anthology. Like a one-hour episode… each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails.”

Even if there’s potential for such a follow up, we shouldn’t hold our breath. Earlier this year, Barker filmed his next movie, Anything But Ghosts, with that movie’s promotional cycle preventing Barker from making an Obsession 2. Also on his plate is a new take on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which doesn’t yet have a release date.

Additionally, Navarrette’s performance has deservedly made her one of the most sought-after actors of the year, and it didn’t take long for her to score her next major role, which is playing Rogue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s X-Men movie.

That X-Men movie currently has a release date of May 5, 2028. Anything But Ghosts is set to release on May 7, 2027.
