It’s Friday and I’m feeling a little…heretical. You know, that naughty, evil feeling when you let the devil on your left shoulder override the angel on your right and get you into all sorts of mischief? Yeah, that’s me right now. Who knows what shenanigans I’ll come up to this weekend but all I know is that I’m going to need a fitting soundtrack to go along with this sensation. And when it comes to all things heretical, what better band can I turn to than Behemoth? So, to that end, I bring you their video for “Ben Sahar”!
Directed by Ólafur Kiljan, the video upends the “Western” tropes and gives it a strong horror twist, one that is more cerebral and demonic than anything I’ve seen before. Presented in black-and-white, there is a stark beauty to the slow unveiling of evil and madness. Honestly, this video feels like a nightmare unfolding and the ending, which fades into blinding whiteness, is the reprieve of awakening.
