Last December, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor took to Twitter to state that a new NIN album would be coming out in 2016, along with other stuff. The other stuff has since been confirmed as the scores to the films Between the Flood, Leonardo DiCaprio’s climate change documentary that he’s scoring alongside Atticus Ross, Mogwai, and Gustavo Santaolalla (The Last of Us), and Patriot’s Day, which is Peter Berg’s take on the Boston Marathon bombing.
However, it’s already several days into October and we still don’t have any word on a new Nine Inch Nails single, much less an album. Fans are beginning to feel like there isn’t hope, although we’ve seen how surprise drops in the horror world can work out tremendously well, a lá 10 Cloverfield Lane.
To put minds at rest, Reznor replied to several comments on a Instagram post he put up yesterday addressing these concerns by simply stating, “2016 is not over yet“.
The last album we got was 2013’s Hesitation Marks, which was reviewed by Lauren Rae back when it came out and didn’t exactly meet her standards. However, I know many people who adored it, so it’ll be interesting to see what kinds of reactions a new album gets!
