“I made you who you are. So you owe me what I want.”
Ottawa-based “geek rockers” Double Experience are paying tribute to Stephen King’s Misery with their new video for the track “Your Biggest Fan,” which essentially remakes Rob Reiner’s Oscar-winning adaptation of the King novel. “Your Biggest Fan” is the third single from the band’s upcoming concept album Alignments, and we’re debuting the video here on BD today.
Vocalist Ian Nichols, who plays the Anne Wilkes character in the video alongside guitarist Brock Tinsley as the Paul Sheldon character, explained to us, “Brock and I treated this music video the way bands treat cover songs; we knew he had to deliver our own artist twist. We were very mindful that some people may not have experienced Rob Reiner’s adaptation of Misery at all. So it was important that our version would deliver the goods without softening any impact the source material could have on a first-timer.”
“Your Biggest Fan” is one of 9 songs that correlate to the nine individual moral philosophies found in Dungeons & Dragons. The band’s thesis, however, is there are real-world applications to this fictional philosophy. “We’ve been guests at a number of pop culture conventions, and I firmly believe I have brushed shoulders with an Anne Wilkes type character,” says Tinsley. “Writing about things like that feels truer to Double Experience than a cliche break-up song.”
