Howard Shore’s ‘The Shrouds’ Soundtrack Pressed on Vinyl by Mutant
David Cronenberg‘s The Shrouds soundtrack is available on vinyl from Mutant in partnership with Howe Records.
The score is composed by Academy Award winner Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings), who has handled all but one of Cronenberg’s soundtracks since 1979.
The album is pressed on 140-gram Gravestone colored vinyl, limited to 500, and packaged in a jacket designed by Mutant co-founder Mo Shafeek. Priced at $35, it’s due out on June 27.
Mutant writes, “The Shrouds continues in the mold of Crimes of the Future, with a delicate but deceptive score. In a film about burial, decay, and the search for meaning—marred by conspiracy theories and an overreliance on technology—the film and score find a space that balances the ethereal and the dreadful. The sacred and profane.”
The Shrouds opens in New York and Los Angeles today and will expand nationwide on April 25 from Sideshow and Janus Films.
In an eerie, deceptively placid near-future, a techno-entrepreneur named Karsh has developed a new software that will allow the bereaved to bear witness to the gradual decay of loved ones dead and buried in the earth.
While Karsh is still reeling from the loss of his wife from cancer—and falling into a peculiar sexual relationship with his wife’s sister—a spate of vandalized graves utilizing his “shroud” technology begins to put his enterprise at risk, leading him to uncover a potentially vast conspiracy.
Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Sandrine Holt (Resident Evil: Apocalypse) star.
Joe Lipsett wrote in his review, “The Shrouds is clearly a personal mediation on the director’s own struggles with grief and loss, but even beyond its ties to his lived experience, the film plays like a pastiche of Cronenberg’s prior work and interests.”

‘Hold the Fort’ Trailer Pits New Homeowners Against an Onslaught of Monsters
Sunrise Films has announced the official North American release of William Bagley‘s horror comedy Hold the Fort, and it’s accompanied by an energetic new trailer.
Hold the Fort debuts on digital platforms on June 23.
In the film, “Lucas and Jenny think their life is finally coming together when the couple become homeowners. Little do they know that their new house comes with a big catch. Lucas and Jenny soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when they become trapped in a battle between their Homeowners Association and an onslaught of monsters from hell. The horror-comedy takes the timely concern of home-ownership and wraps this up in an entertaining action-packed thrill ride.“
Watch the new trailer below, which introduces one wild HOA gathering during an equinox. Things get bloody fast.
Chris Mayers (Adult Swim Yule Log), Haley Leary (“The Walking Dead”), Levi Burdick, and Julian Smith star.
William Bagley writes and directs, in addition to producing with Smith, Matt Dodd, Luke Williams, and Tim Reis (Adult Swim Yule Log).
Ahead of the release, Bagley said, “My goal with this film was to make a hilarious, fast-paced thrill ride while also telling a great story with heart. Hopefully, through all the blood, laughs, fights, and gags, you leave the film feeling inspired to tackle whatever life throws at you.“
Hold the Fort premiered at Fantasia last summer before going on to play FrightFest London, Toronto After Dark, and Beyond Fest.
I wrote in my review, “It’s an infectiously charming assemblage of jokes and monster vignettes bound together by a barebones plot with not much on its mind beyond delivering an entertaining time.”
