Nicolas Cage Hunts Down a ‘Witch’ For Columbia
Who would have thought I’d cringe when Nicolas Cage gets cast in a horror movie? After years of being one of my favorite actors, he has quickly become one that I’m quite nervous about. Even though he has been in garbage like BANGKOK DANGEROUS, GHOST RIDER, WICKER MAN and NATIONAL TREASURE, he still was in GRINDHOUSE, Alex Proyas’ upcoming KNOWING and more. So, who knows, maybe he still has it? Either way, Cage is jumping back into our genre as he’ll be taking on a “Witch” in a new movie by Relativity Media and Columbia Pictures, read on for the story.
Nicolas Cage will reteam with director Dominic Sena for the supernatural thriller Season of the Witch for Relativity Media.
The story revolves around a group of knights in 14th century France who must transport a woman accused of witchcraft to a mountain abbey, where the monks will seek to understand and destroy her powers, believed to be the source of the Black Plague.
Bragi Schut Jr. penned the screenplay.
Film, which had been in development at Columbia Pictures, will be produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in early November in Austria and Hungary.
“Season of the Witch” marks the second collaboration between Atlas and Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity. Earlier this year, the two companies brought the Jason Statham starrer “The Bank Job” to the bigscreen.
Cage previously worked with Sena on “Gone in Sixty Seconds.”
A creature wreaks havoc upon a community in Hope, from writer-director Na Hong-jin (The Wailing), and the new poster gives a closer look at the snarling beast.
The Korean monster movie will be released in theaters in the United States by NEON on September 9.

Set in the remote South Korean village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok and officer Sung-ae are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village.
In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, including Sung- ki, set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading.
What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.
Hwang Jung-min (The Wailing), Zo In-sung (“Moving”), Hoyeon (“Squid Game”), Taylor Russell (Bones and All), Cameron Britton (“The Umbrella Academy”), Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), and Michael Fassbender (Prometheus) star in Hope.
Hope had its World Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival back in May. The festival’s director, Thierry Fremaux, previously teased that Hope “constantly changes genres” to capture a story of “no part of history that’s ever been told before.”
