Last July, Sonny Mallhi, an exec VP at Vertigo, passed around a screenplay he wrote under a pseudonym so it would be given fair consideration in the marketplace. The script, The Roommate, was quickly acquired by Sony Screen Gems. Today casting has officially begin for the film, which is set to be directed by Christian E. Christiansen. Leighton Meester, one of the stars of “Gossip Girl,” is getting ready for some late-night whispering sessions on the big screen.
The actress is in negotiations to star in the Sony Screen Gems thriller “The Roommate.” Christian E. Christiansen is directing, and Roy Lee and Doug Davison’s Vertigo Entertainment is producing.
The story follows Sara (Meester), a college student who is randomly assigned to a freshman dorm with a stranger named Rebecca. Things turn deadly when Rebecca becomes obsessed and begins targeting people in Sara’s life.
The role of Rebecca has not been cast.
